The Youth Team picked up three points with a 4-0 victory over Crowborough Athletic in the first game in defence of the Kent Youth League Premier Division Title. With both teams getting knocked out of the F.A. Youth Cup last week, Invicta losing 3-1 at Corinthian and Crowborough Athletic going down 3-0 at Ramsgate, both were looking to get off to a winning start in the League.
And it couldn’t have started better for Invicta as within 30 seconds we took the lead as following a quick break from Hector Dupree, the ball was crossed and Lucas Wade was on hand to pass the ball into the net, although it caught a deflection on the way so giving Crowborough goalkeeper Tim Walters no chance. Dupree then had a good chance to double the lead but he shot over, however after five minutes he atoned for that miss, receiving a pass from Wade and slotting the ball past the advancing goalkeeper. We continued to make chances in the first half but once again Walters was standing firm, saving well from Ryan Aldritt, Joss Wickham and Wade. However, it wasn’t all one-way and Crowborough Athletic’s centre forward Ollie Styles saw his shot just clear the bar.
The second half almost saw Invicta score in the opening minutes again, but having won the penalty, George Edghill saw his kick well saved by Walters using his feet. Our opponents then had a decent half chance as Kian Widsom-Simmons broke through the centre of the defence, and despite being pushed wide, he got off a good shot which flew across the goal. Widsom-Simmons then showed good skill to set up Isaac Raynor whose shot was well saved at his near post by Invicta goalkeeper Connor Collins, who then did well to come through a crowd of players to collect the corner and prevent further danger.
The game then got a bit scrappy as a number injuries lead to the game becoming a bit stop and start, and just as it looked like the game would end 2-0, Dupree added two more goals in the last five minutes to complete his hat-trick and give Invicta a 4-0 victory.

So far only two games have been played in the League this season, apart from Invicta’s 4-0 win over Crowborough Athletic 4-0, Phoenix Sports have won 4-1 at Sheppey United. So, in the (very!) early stages that puts us top of the table!
